Fresh Food Famine??

Why is the fresh food company here on campus always so stingy with the portion sizes of their food?? I don't understand. I mean, I can just go wait in line for another ten minutes to get half of a hot dog, or they can just give me all I want at once. I don't get it. I have an unlimited meal plan too. They say it's an all you can eat place, but they should change it into all you can fit on your plate... However, knowing them, if that rule went through the lovely people who work at the fresh food company would probably only give us smaller plates

We Won One!!!! But then We Got Pooped On....

I think the title speaks for itself. Everyone was so hyped about our first win last weekend only to have that high morale and momentum smashed to bits and pieces by Southern Methodist. Its all good though... They may have embarrassed us at our own homecoming, but at least I did my part by playing my Drum and supporting my team with just as much enthusiasm as if we were winning.... Right??

Studying Abroad: Is It Really Worth It??

Now.... I've been thinking about studying abroad since about the 4th grade simply because I wanted to have some kind of accent. Yes, I know this is childish, but what can I say? It was 4th grade. Now, I'm seriously considering seizing the opportunity to study in a land far far away, learn new things, and meet new types of people. However, I'm constantly reminded of the serious expenses that come with travelling. This, my friends, is what makes me a lot more hesitant. I intend to do more inquiring as to how I could obtain the greatest amount of financial aid possible... But I'm not sure exactly how I would go about doing that.
Long story short: I want to study abroad. Is it worth jumping through all of the hoops involved in that process??

Why Is Our Football Team So TERRIBLE???

Being an active member of The Mighty Sound Of The South, I am forced (through my love of music of course) to sit through all of our football team's embarrassing ass whuppings. I mean c'mon.... What is it they're doing wrong out there??? Perhaps the better question would be: What are the other teams doing right??

Stem Cell Research

I wasn't too sure on what to blog about at first until we got that nice, detailed tour of the limitless resources we have access to. While the librarian was browsing through the massive pool of controversial topics, I came across one that perked my interest: Stem Cell Research. Do the potentially lifesaving methods it can produce make it worth while? I say yes. Stem cell research can ultimately cure most of the most deadly and life threatening diseases like cancer, Alzheimer's, and diabetes. Being a diabetic myself, of course I'm all for the possibility of a cure. Diabetes is a freakin inconvenience. But I digress.... I'm interested to know what others think on the matter. Just different points of view. Whether you're in agreement with me or not isn't a big deal either.

A Little Bit About NOLON

My name is Nolon Duane White. My name just so happens to be a palindrome, so attempting to spell it backwards will grant you the same result. My interests include reading, playing Xbox, drumming, eating, and hanging out with friends. The clubs I was involved with in high school were pep club, Band, and thespian club. I was in the marching band because I enjoy performing music for others to enjoy. My strengths include writing and speaking well, and I could probably use the most improvement on meeting deadlines.

I chose the U of M because of the many opportunities it has to offer such as a great music and business program. My fears include being overwhelmed by work and not being able to study efficiently, but I am actively supported by my friends and family constantly because they know I can and will do well. My hopes for this semester are to get a job and do great in my ACAD class.

As far as careers go, I see myself pursuing a degree in business and economics and a minor in music in order to become a financial planner or a music teacher. If I could visit somewhere out of the country it would be Germany because I was born there and I would like to go back and have a better understanding of what my surroundings were really like back then. In the next four years I hope to obtain a college degree and go back to school as a graduate student. I truly believe Memphis is great despite all of the negative things that happen here simply because the good, positive things in Memphis are just as amazingly memorable as anything else. People should just focus on at least some of the good instead of all of the bad.

That is all.
