My First Semester

I am not doing as well as I thought I would be doing my first semester of college. I’m doing MUCH better. The most surprising thing about attending college for me was finding out that it is not nearly as difficult as my high school teachers made it out to be. The most difficult thing about college has been waking up and going to class on my own.
Am I fitting in socially? Yes, meeting all kinds of people has never been a problem for me. I have all kinds of friends who are all different from me as well as from each other. I have met many interesting people, my friend Handooj who lives on my floor is quite the character, he’s from India, but he’s crazy. He’ll do things like ask a professor if he or she feels like Thursday is a good day to eat bananas; total randomness.
I wish someone had told me that college was not as difficult as it’s hyped up to be. Because it’s not.
Sincerely,
Nolon White

PS: Miss Jessica Swan is by far the best, and most beautiful woman and Teacher I have ever had the pleasure of encountering. Her approach to life is inspiring as well as innovative in a way that only a woman as spectacular as she could pull off.

1st Semester Is Winding Down

As a freshman, I'm looking back at all of the things I've done so far in my first semester as a college student and I realize that things are nowhere near as scary or difficult as high school teachers made it out to be. They say it gets harder as you progress though, but I shall cross that bridge when I get to it.

TULANE

This past weekend I got the opportunity to visit the crazy and wild city of New Orleans. I had an amazing time with my bandmates on Bourbon street. We got to see a lot of people get wasted and get naked and quite frankly, it was pretty exciting. We also got to experience the excitement that was generated from within the Superdome by cheering our football team on to victory for once.

English 1020

I must say, I'm a freshman and this is the most unique and engaging English course I've ever taken. I'm constantly hearing and learning new things from Miss Swan and all of her very diverse guest speakers (I've had a blast so far with my fun pack). No, I'm not just saying these things in an attempt to get on my teacher's good side. I mean them all from the bottom of my heart and with the utmost sincerity (not sure if that's a word or not). But all jokes aside, the bottom line is: I love this class.

Fresh Food Famine??

Why is the fresh food company here on campus always so stingy with the portion sizes of their food?? I don't understand. I mean, I can just go wait in line for another ten minutes to get half of a hot dog, or they can just give me all I want at once. I don't get it. I have an unlimited meal plan too. They say it's an all you can eat place, but they should change it into all you can fit on your plate... However, knowing them, if that rule went through the lovely people who work at the fresh food company would probably only give us smaller plates

We Won One!!!! But then We Got Pooped On....

I think the title speaks for itself. Everyone was so hyped about our first win last weekend only to have that high morale and momentum smashed to bits and pieces by Southern Methodist. Its all good though... They may have embarrassed us at our own homecoming, but at least I did my part by playing my Drum and supporting my team with just as much enthusiasm as if we were winning.... Right??

Studying Abroad: Is It Really Worth It??

Now.... I've been thinking about studying abroad since about the 4th grade simply because I wanted to have some kind of accent. Yes, I know this is childish, but what can I say? It was 4th grade. Now, I'm seriously considering seizing the opportunity to study in a land far far away, learn new things, and meet new types of people. However, I'm constantly reminded of the serious expenses that come with travelling. This, my friends, is what makes me a lot more hesitant. I intend to do more inquiring as to how I could obtain the greatest amount of financial aid possible... But I'm not sure exactly how I would go about doing that.
Long story short: I want to study abroad. Is it worth jumping through all of the hoops involved in that process??
